Reflections on Survival Amidst Ongoing Conflict: A Personal Perspective
This morning, I once again found myself unexpectedly caught in the chaos of a violent conflict. An Israeli military strike targeted a civilian vehicle in close proximity to where I was, and I was fortunate enough to survive—yet, this experience prompts profound reflection on the human cost of war.
Tragically, not everyone was as fortunate. Among the victims of that strike was an 18-year-old girl—a young woman on her way to take her Tawjihi exams, a pivotal step in her educational journey. Despite the chaos and danger surrounding her, she was determined to pursue her education and shape a future beyond adversity.
Her story raises urgent questions: What was her fault? She was simply a student, seeking to continue her studies and hold onto her aspirations. Her death underscores the indiscriminate violence and the devastating toll it takes on innocent lives, especially the youth who are striving for knowledge and a better future.
While I am grateful to have survived once more, I cannot help but feel a deep sense of grief and helplessness. Witnessing her loss makes me wish I had not survived, as it starkly highlights the cruel reality that some escape these horrors while others are lost—mere victims of circumstances beyond their control.
