The Curious Phenomenon of Time: Why Does It Seem to Fly By?

As we reach the midpoint of June 2025, I find myself reflecting on a common sentiment: time seems to be accelerating at an alarming rate. I can’t be the only one who feels like the days, weeks, and months are slipping away faster than ever before.

There’s a popular theory that as we age, our perception of time shifts, making the years feel shorter. Additionally, our present-day habits—like endlessly scrolling through social media—might contribute to this fleeting sense of time. At just 21 years old, I can’t help but observe that this year feels more fleeting than any previous one. In conversations with friends and family, I’ve discovered that many share my confusion; even my younger cousins, at the ages of 9 and 11, express that time is moving too quickly.

When I think back to 2020, the leap to 2025 doesn’t feel like a five-year span. In fact, I often feel as if we should still be in 2022 or 2023! It’s almost comical how disjointed our perception of time seems to be.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Have you noticed the same phenomenon? Why do you think time feels so distorted? Share your perspectives, and let’s explore this perplexing aspect of our lives together.
