Traditionally, “history” is defined as the period following the invention of writing, a boundary that has long been set around 3500-3200 BCE. However, recent archaeological breakthroughs are blurring this line, challenging the idea that civilization and “record-keeping” began in a linear fashion in Mesopotamia and Egypt.
