In my career, I encountered a unique situation that involved both upward movement and displacement within the same organization. I was working in a mid-level managerial role at a technology firm where I had been contributing for several years. Due to a significant restructuring within the company aimed at modernizing and adapting to changing market conditions, roles and structures were being redefined. During this period, I applied for a newly created senior position that aligned closely with my expertise and the strategic direction I had advocated for.

I successfully navigated the competitive internal application process and was offered the new role. However, just as I received the offer, I was informed that my current position was being eliminated as part of the organization’s restructuring effort. It was a bittersweet transition, as I was prepared to embrace new challenges and responsibilities, while also needing to reconcile the abrupt end of my former role.

This experience required me to adapt quickly and maintain focus amidst significant change. It reinforced the importance of understanding both the broader organizational goals and my personal career aspirations, while also highlighting the sometimes unpredictable nature of corporate restructuring. Ultimately, this dual experience sharpened my ability to pivot and thrive in dynamic environments.
