A significant red flag for me when getting to know someone is a lack of empathy or consideration for others’ feelings and experiences. This can manifest as dismissive behavior, a tendency to dominate conversations without showing real interest in others, or being consistently critical or judgmental. Such traits often signal deeper issues with communication and respect, which are critical to fostering a healthy and balanced relationship. Empathy is fundamental for understanding and supporting each other, and without it, it can be challenging to build a connection based on trust and mutual respect. A person who cannot acknowledge or appreciate perspectives outside of their own may struggle to cultivate meaningful, harmonious relationships.
