A couple of years ago, I was sitting in a coffee shop when I unintentionally overheard a hilarious conversation between two young siblings and their mother. The children seemed intrigued by their mom’s warning to “stay away from strangers.” One of the kids, likely around six years old, earnestly asked, “But what if the stranger has ice cream and it’s not melting?” The mother, trying to maintain her composure, replied with a smile, “Especially then, honey, because even ice cream needs to be kept cool and there’s always lots of ice cream at home.” The younger sibling chimed in with a confused look, asking, “But what if it’s magic ice cream?” This exchange continued with the mother trying her best to explain why magic ice cream was not a real thing while the children peppered her with increasingly creative questions about scenarios involving various kinds of pretend and irresistibly tempting treats. It was charmingly funny to witness their innocent yet imaginative logic, and the mother’s futile attempts to stay serious made the scene even more comical.
